HISTORY
Childhood [Birth-10]: Only a few weeks after her egg was laid, Riley Von Brandt’s birth mother Valena Von Brandt was captured and sacrificed by a clan of conservationist Warriors before she could return to the Common Ground. Riley’s egg was found by a passing courier of Magiterra, and was taken to Queen Crystallina on sheer impulse. Upon contact with the egg, the Queen chose to visit Daemoseras to seek out the mother of the egg, only to discover from the other Demonesses that Valena was now dead. After much discussion between the Queen and Sector 17’s Alpha, Queen Crystallina requested that she be the one to hatch and raise the child as her own. The other Demonesses refused such an idea, but the Alpha and Elder agreed to the Queen’s terms. When it came time for Riley’s egg to hatch, the Queen was to bring the egg to the Common Ground, and was limited to only one advisor to accompany her. The Queen chose to bring her only daughter, Krystabelle, to Riley’s hatching, as the Princess requested to partake in the consuming of the egg shell tradition, should the Queen pass away during Riley’s life, it would be her to take up responsibility for her.

Queen Crystallina’s husband King Kristof was immensely against having a demon as a potential heir to the throne, but the Queen was more than convincing in order to change his mind, if not only temporarily. So through Riley’s childhood the Queen raised her on her own, giving the biologically sexless Riley the choice as to whether she wanted to be a princess or a knight. Riley chose a princess because she wanted to help Krystabelle with her royal duties once she became Queen.

Adolescence [11-19]: Throughout her years of schooling, Riley displayed a wider intellect than her classmates thanks to the additional studying she did in her spare time. She was immensely interested in historical events and obscure details that even her professors weren’t aware of, and the Queen indulged her in the knowledge she sought out. Riley was content with being a princess in status, but as Krystabelle described it, she carried herself more like a Queen than anything. This became more apparent when Krystabelle disappeared, and Riley was named the next successor to the throne.

Krystabelle’s disappearance took a toll on Queen Crystallina mentally, as there was something occurring that was never revealed to the young heiress, and it was only a few years until the Queen drew her last breath and passed on. It was at this time that, due to her drastic increase in emotion, Riley’s suppressed manipulation over fire flared up; and during the Queen’s public cremation, Riley nearly caused a forest fire. Thankfully a number of mages were attending the ceremony so as to keep everything under control. However, now that the Queen was gone, the once kind servants and numerable privileges began to dwindle in Riley’s presence. King Kristof was adamant to keep Riley the heir to the throne; that is, unless Krystabelle came forward and directly conveyed to him that Riley should be the next in line. In order to gain passage as the heir to the kingdom, Riley packed her things and set out to search for Krystabelle, in hopes of having her return and allow Riley to become the next Queen in her stead.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
While humans make up 2/3s of the population, and consist of Warriors and Mages, the remaining 1/3 are Errors, and consist of Demons, Naeturals, Shades and Baestians. Of those four sub-groups, Demons make up half of the Error population.

Demonesses outnumber Male Demons approximately 20:5:1 with the 1 being the Alpha. All Demonesses breed with the Alpha, regardless of relationship status. Once pregnant, each female departs from the Common Ground to the border of their Sector to build a nest to lay their egg. Females can only lay one egg at a time, and their significant other as well as their other children may accompany them to their nests. Once the egg is laid, the Demoness licks the blood and fluid from the egg to harden the shell, then she decides when to the return to the Common Ground. All eggs must hatch in their respective Common Grounds, because once the egg hatches, the Alpha comes over to bestow a symbol onto the infant, and the sector’s Elder performs the post-natal care. As per tradition, the mother eats the remaining egg shell to forge a bond with the infant, as the baby will be attracted to the safety and comfort of their egg. Demonesses regularly breast-feed their children (goat’s milk will suffice), and once the child’s fangs come in, it’ll occasionally bite and sample her blood.

Demonesses are known for being very hostile and protective when it comes to their eggs and children, and are very territorial during pregnancy. If Demonesses from two different Sectors encounter one another during similar periods in their pregnancies, and if there is no mediator, they’re known to immediately begin fighting, most times to the death.

Should a Demoness be killed before her egg hatches, a childless Demoness will most often receive the egg in the birth mother’s stead. It is a firm rule that a child should not be without a mother.
